Winner of the Supreme Award for Otago Sportsperson of the Year, Hamish Bond, on stage to receive his award at the 22nd Annual ASB Otago Sports Awards 2011 held at the Dunedin Town Hall this evening.
World champion rower Bond was first named the Sportsman of the Year Award then went on to take the supreme award of Sportsperson of the Year. Alison Shanks won the Sportswoman of the Year award for the fifth consecutive year and her partner and coach Craig Palmer took out the Coach of the Year award for the third year running. Curling brother and sister team Sean and Bridget Becker took out the Team of the Year award and freestyle skier Jossi Wells took out the Junior Sportsperson of the Year award.
The ASB Otago Sports Awards are organised annually by Sport Otago in conjunction with the Halberg Trust. The both recognise sporting excellence in the Otago province and raise funds to further the work of Sport Otago in helping children with disabilities acccess sport and recreation options alongside their able-bodied peers.
