Sporting Events - North Otago v West Coast
Forsyth Barr Stadium. Sunday 7 August 2011

It's a try! North Otago score in the corner to seal a 29-19 win over the West Coast in the Heartland Championship rugby match played at the new Forsyth Barr Stadium this afternoon.

A crowd of around 7,500 people turned out to watch the game, but most likely to check out the new venue complete with spectacular plastic bubble roof that completely covers the stadium. Judging by some of the comments from those near to the ground it was all good with everyone pleased to be protected from the bitterly cold southerly wind and rain that was often a unwelcome feature at the old Carisbrook ground.

Scroll down for more action from the field and fans around the ground....

Some fans in the front row of the South Stand.
A Scottish Pipe Band starts the day's event with a march past on the impressive turf then it's game time for the North Otago and West Coast teams.
The views from around the ground are stunning and one would be hard pressed to find a seat that didn't give a full view of the ground.
More fans from around the ground.
A look at some of the facilities underneath the stands including the food and drink outlets under the South Stand and the player's dressing rooms under the North Stand.

Some more action from on the field.
