2009 Moro Marathon, Half Marathon & Recreational Walk

A record field of over 200 competitors in the full marathon get underway at the Harrington Point start line for the 2009 Moro Marathon, Half Marathon and Recreational Walk event held in the city this morning.
Dunedin turned on another stunning day for the competitors as they wound their way around the picturesque harbour side course before crossing the finish line at the Port Chalmers Watson Park finish.

Some last minute adjustments and stretching before competitors in the full marathon embark on their epic journey to the Port Chalmers finish line.
The Dunedin Marathon course must be one of the world's best for sheer beauty and breathtaking views, especially on a perfectly calm morning. Some competitors even get dressed especially for the occasion! Others just put their head down and continue their personal challenge as they look across the Otago Harbour and see the container cranes at Port Chalmers in the distance where eventually they will finish.
A huge crowd of over 1800 competitors in the half marathon and recreational walk set off from the Portsmouth Drive start line at 9.30am
Early leaders in the half marathon stream past the Otago Harbour basin in the perfect conditions with mild temperatures, clear skies and no wind - not to mention views to die for!
This year competitors ran along the recently completed cycle/walkway near Ravensbourne that runs alongside the main trunk railway line where the Taieri Gorge supporters train greeted them.
The last big hill before the finish line as competitors pass the suburb of Roseneath a few kilometres away from the Port Chalmers finish line at Watson Park.
