There was a Christmas party atmosphere in the Octagon this evening as a big crowd of young and old alike crowded around the stage to enjoy a lively programme of entertainment courtesy of local Dunedin schools before the lighting of the giant Christmas Tree that will be located in the lower Octagon during the holiday season.
Pupils from Taieri College, St Joseph's Cathedral School. Elmgrove School as well as hip hop dancers from the RASA School of Dance were among the list of performers who took to the stage with carol singing, solo performances, poem readings and a story telling section from MC Grant McLean.
