Parks & Gardens
Dunedin, like many other New Zealand cities and towns, has an abundance of parks and gardens scattered around the city and surrounding areas that provide relaxing and restful places to go for that stroll on a nice day, or just somewhere quiet to read a book or watch the world go by.
The Dunedin Botanical Gardens, situated at the North End of the city are the most popular, but there are many others within a few minutes drive of the Octagon in the central city. We will be bringing more photos and information on these other areas soon so make sure you check back for updates. In the mean time enjoy these samples of what the Botanic Gardens have to offer.
Dunedin Botanic Garden

Established in 1863, Dunedin Botanic Garden is the oldest in New Zealand. The Garden offers a wide range of amenities and specialised plant collections. For more detailed information on the Dunedin Botanic Gardens check out the Dunedin City Council's City of Dunedin Website where you can find many more photos and interesting facts.
Dunedin Chinese Garden
The Dunedin Chinese Garden is an example of a late Ming, early Ching Dynasty Scholar's Garden, surrounded by a four metre perimeter wall. The garden uses authentic Chinese materials crafted by a team of artisans/craftsmen for Dunedin's sister city of Shanghai. In addition to the hand-made wooden buildings, the Garden features hand-made tiles, bricks and lattice-work and hand-finished granite paving stones.
The Dunedin Chinese Garden is open from 10 am to 5 pm, 7 days per week and 7pm to 9pm on Wednesdays.
